About the role

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead an organization of software engineering teams focused on the development of internal applications and integrations with third-party tools and vendors. This role is critical to providing technical and people leadership to the engineers in the digital for CMC/technical development organization as well as providing a strategic outlook of engineering activities to digital leadership. The Principal Software Engineering Manager will manage teams based in Norwood, MA and Cambridge, MA.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development, deployment, and maintenance operations of cloud-based (AWS) scientific software systems, as well as integrations with third-party systems.

  • Act as the primary liaison between the CMC/Technical Development leadership and engineering teams.

  • Manage and mentor teams of engineers.

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for engineering initiatives that align with business objectives.

  • Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of internally-developed systems.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration within the CMC/Technical Development engineering teams.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive future engineering initiatives

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 8+ years of experience developing and maintaining scalable cloud-based software applications, especially in a scientific domain

  • Experience with various web development languages and frameworks, including Javascript/Typescript, Python, Angular, NestJS, NodeJS, or similar

  • Strong understanding of how technology can enhance and automate scientific processes

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with leading one or more engineering teams responsible for developing and maintaining scientific software applications

  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with senior leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change in a complex and dynamic environment.
