Description

Hobart and William Smith Colleges is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that honors the diverse needs of our students. The Office of Disability Services, situated within the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), plays a crucial role in ensuring that students with disabilities have equitable access to all HWS programs and activities.

The Assistant Director of Disability Services is a key position responsible for facilitating academic accommodations for students in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Fair Housing Act, and College policies and procedures. It is possible that this may become a hybrid position.

Essential Responsibilities:

·         Provide direct service to students with disabilities by reviewing disability documentation, determining appropriate and reasonable accommodations, including fostering a relationship rich environment.

·         Evaluate CTL disability documentation guidelines, clearly communicate the guidelines through a multitude of formats, and review student documentation to determine eligibility of students for accommodations.

·         Engage prospective students; provide comprehensive information about the institution, CTL programming in whole, and the disability services process at the colleges through in-person meetings.

·         Manage the disability housing, dining, and assistance animal accommodation process.

·         Foster an environment of equity and inclusion through advocacy and direct work with all entities (students, staff, and faculty).

Other Information:

This is a part-time, 10-month, non-benefits, administrative hourly position.  There is a possibility for this to become a hybrid position.  This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year.  Pay rate is $40.00 per hour.  

Qualifications

•         Master’s degree in related field.

•         7 years of experience working with students with disabilities or advanced graduate work with experience providing disability services in post-secondary education setting.

•         Discretion, sound judgment and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with students, faculty, administrators, parents, handling confidential information, and communicating with all campus constituencies.

•         Demonstrated experience reviewing clinical documentation, conducting interactive/iterative processes for determining accommodations and providing such accommodations.

•         Demonstrated knowledge of current state and federal law and regulation related to the ADA, Section 504, Fair Housing Act and of federal regulatory requirements for educational institutions receiving federal assistance.

•         Superior attention to detail, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and electronic, verbal, and written communication skills.

•         Demonstrated knowledge of diversity and the ability to interact with a diverse population.

·         Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative

·         Strong customer service orientation; positive, helpful, resourceful

·         Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of others

·         Highly reliable, flexible and adaptable
