Job Summary:
We are seeking a mature, responsible and enthusiastic CSUSB student to assist us in providing guidance and mentorship to a diverse student population of first time EOP RSP freshmen. The EOP Summer Bridge Student Assistant is a full-time on campus live-in position Sunday through Thursday. The position guarantees 32 hours a week and requires open availability as the schedule varies by day. The EOP Summer Bridge Student Assistant works under the lead direction of the EOP Summer Bridge Coordinator and will be required to participate in training prior to the program start date.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrated experience effectively working with diverse student populations.
- Experience as a student leader including campus extracurricular activities, community organizing, and/or student employment.
- Demonstrate the ability to problem solve, communicate effectively and be flexible.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, productive relationships with student participants and program staff.
- Be a team player, mature and reliable.
- Experience working in an educational setting or with student groups.
- Applicant must be in good standing with the University and the Educational Opportunity Program.
- CSUSB EOP Renaissance Scholars will be given preferred consideration.
- CSUSB Students with at least junior standing (60 semester units) will be given preferred consideration.
- CSUSB students with prior Resident Assistant experience will be given preferred consideration.
- Current EOP RSP students who participated in the EOP Summer Bridge will be given preferred consideration.
- Must be in good standing with the University and the Educational Opportunity Program
- Grade point average (GPA) of 2.0+ required
- Supervise EOP Summer Bridge students living in CSUSB housing facilities and maintain a positive learning environment ensuring the safety and well-being of EOP Summer Bridge student participants.
- Supervise students for compliance with University, Office of Housing and Residential Life, and Summer Bridge Policies.
- Plan and organize educational study hours.
- Coordinate specialized programming for EOP Summer Bridge students living in residence halls.
- Maintain collaborative communication with EOP Summer Bridge Coordinator & EOP RSP Coordinator.
- Assist in addressing student inquiries and/or providing appropriate referrals.
- Serve as a mentor to student participants by providing guidance, support and accurate information.
- Encourage and motivate students regarding their academic progress, participation, and overall transition.
- In the event of an emergency, contact and inform that appropriate parties.
- Monitor study sessions.
- Conduct meetings with assigned group of students with sensitivity at all times.
- Encourage and ensure students are fully participating in all activities (curricular and co-curricular)
- Conduct yourself in a professional demeanor at all times.
- Attend all evening activities and other activities as requested.
- Promote community amongst students.
- Apply appropriate conflict resolution strategies among students if needed.
- Monitor Housing facilities and equipment and report any issues in student living area to appropriate parties.
- Report to the EOP Summer Bridge Coordinator and EOP RSP Coordinator on housing activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to the mission and goals of the EOP Summer Bridge and Renaissance Scholars Program.
- This position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
