The Department of Marine Resources is seeking applicants to fill a limited period Marine Resource Specialist position in the Bureau of Marine Science located in West Boothbay.   

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is seeking applicants with strong database experience and effective communication skills to fill a Marine Resource Specialist position in the Biological Monitoring & Assessment Division/ Bureau of Marine Science located at the West Boothbay Harbor laboratory. 

This position will be responsible for assisting with 100% lobster reporting. The primary responsibilities will be: 

  • Contacting harvesters with new reporting requirements
  • Training harvesters with mandatory reporting requirements and how to report using electronic reporting options
  • Rejecting, and correcting incomplete reports and completing data audits
  • Being responsible for outreach with licensed harvesters
  • Helping to enforce mandatory reporting requirements
  • Being a primary contact for harvesters wishing to use the new VESL harvester reporting application and Maine LEEDS (Licensing Enforcement and Environmental Data System) to submit their mandatory reports.

Additionally, this position may work collaboratively with other programs in the Bureau of Marine Science to aid other projects as needed.  

There will be some remote work opportunities with this position following DMR’s Telework Policy and management approval.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Intermediate education, training, and/or experience in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data including coursework or demonstrated experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.

Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in database design, maintenance and advanced querying techniques (Access, R, SQL preferred but not limited). Additional qualities must include strong interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
