Leidos is seeking a Leidos is seeking a Research Technician to work with the Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts (CIBA) department at the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio TX.NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
The Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts Department conducts research on stem cell and immune based therapeutics intended to improve warfighter outcomes and survival. Stem cell therapeutics focuses on the comparison and assessment of stem cells from different tissue sources, the assessment of protein secretomes or exosomes for preventing and reducing injury from trauma/hemorrhagic shock, and the targeted treatment of severe tissue defects in order to promote tissue repair. Immune based therapeutics explores immunomodulation to prevent and reduce tissue and organ damage resulting from trauma and hemorrhagic shock. The Challenge:
Assist laboratory-based research applying the latest scientific knowledge in hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation and stem cell therapy
Implement and maintain research files
Assist preparation for presentations and written published articles
Perform daily laboratory experiments such as cell culture, ELISA, Western blot and PCR
Help the Government in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies related to research under contract
Perform daily data analysis and report such to PI and other research staff
Provide additional functionality incidental to research activities
Set up, operate, and calibrate laboratory equipment
Compile and may analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques
Report on status of research activities
Aid in conducting daily and weekly inspections or areas of contractor responsibility to ensure compliance with standards
Assist with in vivo research that may involve small and large animal species
What Sets You Apart:
Associate’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree (Degree should be in a biological, healthcare, or a life science.)
Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.
