POSITION PURPOSE
Serves as a member of the Executive Team providing strategic thought leadership and direction for the Trinity Health Michigan’s (THMI) Clinical and Medical Staff Services, Quality, Patient Safety, Research, Graduate Medical Education and Care Management programs across the acute care and ambulatory environment. Serves as the Chief Clinical Leader for Quality working with the THMI regional and local boards to oversee quality, care management, risk, research, regulatory reviews, patient safety and a broad scope of performance improvement support functions for the health system. The Chief Clinical Officer leads the enabling strategies to assure regulatory compliance, and risk management necessary to fulfill and sustain the ministries mission and vision. The Chief Clinical Officer serves as internal consultant to senior medical leadership including each hospital’s President, Chief Medical and Nursing Officer and other medical staff leaders (e.g. Quality and Informatics). Serves with matrix oversite of Chief Medical Officers and Regional Chief Nursing Officer to advance quality, safety and integration of Systemwide Clinical Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Meets Health System Code of Conduct Standards including interpersonal communication, professional conduct expectations, and compliance with core values.
Develops the five-year quality, patient safety, risk management and care management strategic plan and the annual operations plan, then monitors and directs regional, hospital and medical group performance to the plans.
Develops consistent strategies for the system quality and focused approach to improving quality and value for the system strategic five-year plan. Works with appropriate hospital and ministry senior leadership team and medical directors to assure consistency and achieve long term quality and utilization objectives.
Leads THMI Integrated Clinical Leadership Team, CMO/CNO Council and Co-Chairs the THMI PC3 (i.e. quality subcommittee of the THMI regional board). Facilitates other statewide clinical advisory teams as needed (e.g. readmissions, physician advisors).
Attends Trinity Health Michigan Board meetings as staff and provides relevant clinical and patient updates as requested.
Leads key service, operational, and staff areas as assigned by the RHM CEO & President including the stewardship of human, financial, and material resources; quality and efficient services; and the alignment of the services of the assigned areas to the strategic plan.
Liaisons to Trinity Heath by serving on various councils, collaboratives and task forces as assigned and as a participant in the Trinity Health leadership group. Implements Trinity Health programs and directives.
Represents THMI to the State of Michigan business, service, and healthcare community by active participation and leadership within various organizations (e.g. Michigan Hospital Association, Michigan State Medical Society, MDHHS) for quality, patient safety, and utilization matters.
Liaison and staff to the Medical Staff and Medical Staff Committees for bylaws standards, clinician credentialing and privileging standards and related quality, patient safety and utilization matters.
As the Chief Clinical Officer, ensures coordination across all entities for the entire quality and patient safety efforts of the organization; this includes oversight of risk management, infection control function, case management and Quality Departments.
