Global Employee & Labour Relations

Global Employee & labour Relations is a Centre of Expertise in our Maersk People Function, supporting all our Brands and Business Units. We are responsible for the development and implementation of the vision and strategy of Maersk in the key specialist area of (international) employee & labour relations (E&LR). We ensure that the fundamental employee and labour rights of our employees are respected throughout the company, and we are responsible for defining and building functional capabilities, as well as policies, procedures, and governance, in E&LR. In addition, we are responsible for building constructive and productive relationships with (international) trade unions, other employee representative bodies and external stakeholders.

The Role

Per the 1st of October 2024 we have a role as Senior Employee & labour Relations Specialist vacant. In this specialist role, you will be supporting our (senior) management and local businesses around the globe on employee & labour relations matters, in the various Brands and Business Units that are part of Maersk. The purpose of this position is to execute employee & labour relations initiatives such as supporting local teams with the creation and implementation of local E&LR Vision & Strategy, providing support in M&A – processes (E&LR due diligence), the (further) implementation of policies like our CBA-negotiation Policy and Global Standards for Third Party Labour, and support management prior to and during important change-events such as organizational changes, introduction of new ways of working and automation-projects (‘just transition’).

You will work in close collaboration with the members of the Global Employee & Labour Relations team and all key critical internal and external stakeholders as it relates to these initiatives.

This role reports into the Head of Global Employee Relations.

Key responsibilities

To support and enable the employee & labour relations strategic initiatives and support our businesses on employee & labour relations matters as Senior Employee & Labour Relations Specialist.

You will be:

• Contributing to the development and implementation of employee & labour relations strategies, policies, tools, and practices, in cooperation with the business, (local) People Function and Employee & Labour Relations colleagues

• Maintaining contacts with global, regional and local core groups of stakeholders across the globe to build the necessary support for the various initiatives; to strive for a health & safe, diverse and conflict free work environment

• Fostering constructive and productive relationships with the representatives of our employees, including (international) trade unions, works councils, etc.


• Supporting the development of training material and act as trainer in our various training programs


• Responsible for the collection of relevant employee relations data and for providing information and specialist support to our senior management and businesses around the world

• Supporting the activities of the Maersk Global Labour Rights Council

We are looking for

  • A change-oriented Employee & Labour Relations professional with at least 3-5 years of experience who holds a relevant university degree, or comparable level

  • Experience with working in a complex and demanding labour environment

  • A result-driven positive thinker who will show leadership by embracing, living, and reinforcing our company Purpose and Values

  • Knowledge of local labour legislation including labour codes, employment standards. Knowledge of (international) labour conventions, human rights codes and health and safety legislation would be considered an advantage

  • Experience with collective bargaining processes and with change management processes involving the
