PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, with daily oversight by the Department Chairs of the Marine Science, the Administrative Support Coordinators are responsible for independently performing the full range of varied and complex clerical/administrative assignments in support of the day-to-day operations of the undergraduate and Master’s-level degree programs within the Marine Science Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. General Office Administration and Support:

Provides primary support to the department Chair and is responsible for the administrative functions of the department. Greets and screens visitors, telephone calls, email and mail, taking the required action or referring requests as appropriate; responds to questions and inquiries from general public, staff, faculty, and students using tact and diplomacy. In collaboration with the Chair, assembles, copies, and distributes information/documents; handles collection and coordination of information related to department activities. 

Identifies supplies, equipment, and services needed. Maintains complete and accurate records and files, both paper and electronic. Collects syllabi and course evaluations and routes as appropriate. Makes recommendations on day-to-day administrative operations and procedures through consultation and coordination with others, performing independently under general goals.
