JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, the RN Surgical Services Resource Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of exceptional quality care by nursing and support staff throughout every critical stage of the surgical process. This includes thorough patient preparation before surgery and effective monitoring and support during post-operative recovery. The primary focus of the RN Coordinator is to lead, guide, and supervise all staff members involved in Surgical Services. This supervision will comply with current Federal, State, and Local standards, as well as guidelines and regulations that govern our facility. A key priority for this leadership role will be the continuous evaluation and reevaluation of our care delivery in each surgical area. Outstanding perioperative care will drive the supervisory functions of this position.


STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Performance Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive performance evaluations of nursing and support staff during their initial hiring phase and annually thereafter. This process will not only assess clinical competencies but will also evaluate interpersonal skills and adherence to our organizational values, fostering a culture of accountability and high standards of care.
  2. Subject Matter Expertise: Provide rigorous education and facilitate vital information sharing amongst all staff levels. This may include leading training sessions, developing educational materials, and serving as a go-to resource for inquiries, ensuring that every team member is equipped with the knowledge needed to excel.
  3. Direct Patient Care: Administer treatments and procedures as directed by the physician, adhering to established nursing policies, procedures, and state regulations. Responsibilities will include monitoring patients during all phases of perioperative care, addressing their physical and emotional needs to ensure a compassionate and supportive environment.
  4. Documentation and Compliance: Meticulously document nursing care by strictly following comprehensive charting guidelines and meeting the specific criteria established by Medicaid and Medicare. Maintaining organized medical records is crucial, as it will guarantee compliance with Health Information Management (HIM) standards and facilitate accurate patient care and efficient retrieval of information.
  5. Patient Care Experience Evaluation: Regularly evaluate patient care experience. Develop and present actionable recommendations for enhancing the surgical patient's experience, addressing any areas of concern, and collaborating with the Director of Surgical Services to ensure optimal care delivery.
  6. Policy Review and Implementation: Responsible for taking an active role in reviewing and updating department policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current best practices and are effective in addressing patient care needs. This will involve collaborating with staff to gather insights and feedback for continuous improvement.
  7. Resource for Staff: Act as a reliable resource for staff regarding surgical services policies, procedures, and protocols. Ensure all team members understand and comply with applicable standards, fostering a learning environment where questions and clarifications are welcomed.
  8. Regulatory Compliance: Oversee that all department personnel comply with the necessary regulatory and legal requirements, ensuring that our operational practices reflect the highest standards of safety and ethics.
  9. Forms Evaluation and Modification: Responsible for ongoing evaluation of all relevant pre-and post-operative forms to identify necessary changes or complete revisions. In collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, present modifications to the forms committee, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our surgical process.
  10. Staff Training and Education: Responsible for leading training initiatives to educate staff on new processes and procedures related to surgical services, helping to ensure the team is not only compliant but also proficient in delivering care that meets our standards of excellence.
  11. Collaborative Quality Improvement: Collaborate with leadership to implement quality improvement initiatives within the surgical services department. Participate in identifying key areas for enhancement and contribute to strategic planning efforts aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  12. Patient Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and/or significant others, explaining that they will receive follow-up phone calls and surveys to check on their condition and assess their surgical experience.
