Student Success Coordinator and SOAR Navigator, Full-Time Temporary
SUMMARY:
The Rowan Integrated Support, Education, and Recover (RISER) program is seeking a candidate who serves the dual role of Student Success Coordinator and the Students Organized to Affirm Recovers (SOAR) Navigator. Under the direction of the Academic Support Programs Director and situated within Academic Support Programs in the Division of Student Affairs, the successful candidate will engage with students who are missing classes, academic work, or generally struggling within the classroom to assess drinking and/or drug use impacting educational outcomes. Students recommended for the SOAR Program will be provided with integrated peer recovery support, educational services, and a linkage to counseling leading to increased retention and academic re-engagement.
This is a full-time temporary, grant-funded, in-person position. Staff may be eligible for one remote day per week, depending on departmental needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Facilitate meetings for the Academic Improvement Program, Rowan’s academic recovery program for students on academic notice
- Meet with academically at-risk students to assess unhealthy drinking, drug use, or other obstacles and refer to appropriate campus resources.
- Assist with early intervention efforts for students identified through the Starfish retention software system.
- Monitor student academic progress and provide early intervention including, linkage to psychological counseling services and substance use disorder (SUD) counseling at the Wellness Center
- Communicate with students through various platforms including email, two-way text messaging, or other strategies.
- Receive messages and phone calls from students through the SOAR text hotline.
- Meet with students who have anonymously contacted the SOAR Program.
- Contact students who indicate SUD may be listed as a concern on an early intervention assessment.
- Provide peer recovery support to students including, motivating students to receive an assessment within the Wellness Center based on student readiness and need.
- Develop education reintegration plans with students who have missed classes, assignments, and exams because of excessive drinking and substance use.
- Promote effective time management, and organizational skills for the students integrated with peer support and self-care management.
- Receive student referrals from the Wellness Center, and other on-campus sources, for students in need of educational navigation due to alcohol or substance use.
- Participate in data collection for the RISER grant, which includes SOAR.
- Serve as a member of the SOAR Collaborative and participate in continuous quality improvement meetings for the project.
- Participate in professional development activities and trainings.
- Create and conduct educational workshops.
- Participate in orientations, open houses, and accepted student activities.
- Collaborate with campus partners to provide alcohol and other drug education to students, faculty, and staff.
- Engage in programming initiatives to provide substance free events.
- Some nights and weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Has familiarity with substance abuse disorder and the recovery process. Open-minded attitude toward all pathways to recovery including medication-assisted treatment, 12-step, harm reduction, counseling, and others. Excellent teaching and mentoring skills with a passion for helping students.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biological, physical, or social science. Master’s Degree preferred.
- One year of professional experience.
- Mentoring or teaching experience with excellent communication and organizational skills are a plus.
As required by the State of New Jersey, must complete a criminal history check and have proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
All positions are contingent upon budget appropriations.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
- Range 18 ($53,277-$61,266)
