About The Role & Team
We’re looking for an engineering leader to own and scale one of Amplitude’s most critical platform pillars: the Data Warehouse. This team powers the systems that import, transform, and export petabytes of data—forming the backbone of our entire analytics platform.
This isn’t a maintenance gig. You’ll lead a high-impact team building the infrastructure that helps our largest customers unify their data, connect to modern data stacks, and surface insights they can trust—fast. If you’re excited to build deep, distributed systems at scale and make data usable across an entire ecosystem, we should talk.
As an Engineering Manager, you will:
- Own the vision, architecture, and execution for Amplitude’s Data Warehouse team.
- Lead a team of infrastructure and full-stack engineers to deliver high-scale ingestion, transformation, and storage systems.
- Build the frameworks and workflows that power our largest enterprise customers and data teams.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Support, and GTM teams to drive a unified roadmap grounded in customer needs.
- Set a high technical bar—contribute to system design, code reviews, and architectural decisions.
- Grow and mentor a world-class engineering team. Hire builders, not passengers.
- Foster a strong team culture that balances curiosity, humility, and accountability.
You'll be a great addition to the team if you:
- You’ve led technical teams shipping complex, scalable systems in production.
- You have 5+ years of experience as an engineer, including people management or technical leadership.
- You’re excited about infrastructure at scale—distributed systems, event pipelines, schema evolution, and data lake architectures.
- You think in systems, not silos—and know how to translate technical constraints into product clarity.
- You’ve coached engineers across levels, and take pride in their growth and impact.
- You believe engineering managers should stay close to the code, and jump in when it makes sense.
- You collaborate well with cross-functional teams and love turning customer pain into product wins.
Bonus Points
- Experience with modern data infra (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Iceberg, Kafka, Parquet, Airflow, Temporal).
- Background in web application development (e.g., JavaScript, Node.js, React).
- Built or led data products used by enterprise customers or internal teams.
- Worked in high-growth environments where systems (and people) had to scale fast.
Why This Team, Why Now
Amplitude is doubling down on data—because every insight we power starts with trustworthy, high-quality data. The Data Warehouse team is central to that mission.
You’ll help shape the future of Amplitude’s data stack, work with passionate engineers and PMs, and scale systems used by thousa
