OVERVIEW

ELL Teacher: This full-time opportunity will be responsible for teaching small group English Language classes at clients’ worksites and other community locations. In addition to class delivery, the teacher will prepare lessons, contribute to curriculum development, conduct needs assessments, and complete administrative responsibilities. The full-time schedule is inclusive of prep time. Term of employment is subject to ongoing renewal/implementation of applicable grant funding.

 

The position will report to the Manager of Education Programs and collaborate with the teaching team and community partners. The ideal candidate will be a flexible, team player with strong interpersonal skills, a self-starter, and open to taking on varied responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Manager of Education Programs and the education team to plan and deliver assigned classes.
  • Teach group classes for adult English language learners year-round, in-person at clients’ worksites and various community locations.
  • Conduct needs assessment and place students appropriately.
  • Utilize and adapt newcomer curriculum.
  • Utilize textbook series and other established curriculum as applicable.
  • Assist with general English course curriculum and materials development.
  • Assist with the development of English for Specific Purposes curriculum content.
  • Create lesson plans, assignments, course syllabuses, and outlines.
  • Leverage communicative language teaching methodologies to encourage a learner-centered environment that will empower students and ensure successful learning experiences.
  • Communicate with students utilizing WhatsApp and other communication tools. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to students as needed. 
  • Assess and evaluate student progress throughout the duration of their participation. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or TESL or Applied Linguistics preferred; other educational backgrounds will be considered.
  • Teaching experience, particularly with adult English language learners, preferred; other applicable teaching experience will be considered.
  • In-person teaching experience required, on-line teaching experience strongly preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, public speaking, and web-based communication.
  • Ability to use technological tools including Zoom, Google Suite, Excel, Word, WhatsApp
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with diverse clients in a non-profit/education-focused setting; previous experience working with refugees and English Language learners preferred.
  • Comfort establishing relationships, collaborating with community organizations, educational institutions, and businesses.
  • Ability to flex work schedule to be available for some evening and weekend hours, if needed.
  • USCRI has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy. All employees must be fully vaccinated to work at any / all locations at USCRI.

TRAINING REQUIRMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training. 
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s) or Human Resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
