Sr Design Assurance Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY The Design Assurance group will primarily partner with Design Engineering to drive project design and performance goals. They will also partner with Strategic Corporate leaders, Quality/Regulatory, and Certification teams to facilitate best practices, and ensure cost, financial, schedule targets are met.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Function as technical lead on multiple complex, integrated projects utilizing advanced engineering design, quality control, and root cause analysis methods.
Create electro-mechanical part and assembly documentation with emphasis on clarity of design intent and manufacturing requirements via Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) where applicable.
Conduct incoming quality checks (IQC) during pre-production phases; subsequently develop turnkey inspection methods and control plans for implementing at final production site, including fixtures and gages.
Support manufacturing partners to resolve part quality issues during design transfer and transition to mass production.
Lead and delegate tasks to Design Assurance technicians as necessary to meet commitment dates.
Contribute to project update presentations and design reviews, preparing visual materials for describing complex engineering concepts (such as screenshots, photos and videos) for internal team, supplier, and sales/marketing communication.
Continuously improving the process by researching and proposing innovative technology enablers (e.g. materials, components, and processes)
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
10+ years of NPD/R&D experience in the medical, consumer, automotive, or aerospace industry.
Proven versatility in both large and small entrepreneurial organizations as demonstrated by succession in responsibilities and willingness to scale abilities to complete objectives.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including injection molding, blow molding, welded steel structures, sheet metal stamping and forming, die casting, and CNC technologies.
Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) for creating engineering drawings from parts and assemblies.
Fluency in utilizing GD&T in engineering drawings.
Experience with Metrology equipment and software.
Hand gages (caliper, micrometer, height gage, runout gage, etc.)
Portable arm CMM
Bridge CMM
3D scanners
Polyworks / GOM / Calypso / PC-DMIS
Mechanical Aptitude – Confident with deconstructing and diagnosing complex assemblies.
Mentor Mentality – Able and willing to explain methods and processes to less knowledgeable peers.
Analytical Thinking – Capable of understanding a technical problem or situation and developing effective solutions.
Continuous Growth – Must take initiative to ensure skills and specializations are kept up to date in line with industry developments and ensure that all relevant skill sets are current.
Ability to travel up to 30% (Domestic)
PREFERRRED EXPERIENCE
Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Design, or Manufacturing
Familiarity with other technical disciplines such as EE and Software
Experience in DFM, DFA, DFMEA, or other risk-based design strategies.
Experience designing for agency certifications (e.g. ISO, IEC, AAMI, UL, CE, CISPR, FCC, FDA)
Industry certifications (e.g., Six-sigma, LEAN, NDT, CWI)
Prior experience interfacing with Certification bodies (Intertek, UL, TUV)
Prior experience working with project management software and Scrum type environments (Jira, Monday, Todoist, etc.).
Demonstrated financial acumen.
Experience in Healthcare product development or similarly Federally regulated field.
