Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support including collecting and recording of vitals, obtaining weights, performing EKGs or other tests, assisting providers with procedures, administering standing orders as appropriate, and providing wound care.
  • Triage students’ health needs including answering incoming calls, speaking with parents as needed, managing the provider visit schedule and triaging any student who arrives at SHS who does not have an appointment, utilizing triage protocols.
  • Support allergy immunotherapy by providing continuous care for students with established therapy regimens.
  • Facilitate public health measures of the campus community by delivering isolation guidance, contact tracing, data collection, assessing symptoms, monitoring for changes in condition and scheduling students for provider visits, as needed.
  • Support STI screening by providing testing for asymptomatic students and scheduling assistance for students needing provider visits for symptomatic testing, treatment and PrEP.
  • Administer IV fluids, medications, immunizations and treatments as ordered by providers.
  • Assess patients at regular intervals and document appropriate notes in electronic medical record as to status, activity, treatments, medications, vital signs.
  • Coordinate patient care between HABIF providers and physicians and services in the community including facilitating referrals and transfers, as needed.
  • Provide home care instructions, discharge instructions and patient education.
  • Assist providers in managing cases of anaphylaxis based on emergency protocols.
  • Provide emotional support, coordinate care with psychologists/psychiatrists when appropriate.
  • Fulfill administrative responsibilities within the department including participation in staff meetings, accurate and timely record keeping, and involvement in departmental committees and planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Two years of Registered Nursing work in a hospital, office or school nursing environment.
  • Ability to apply professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with clients in crisis with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to collaborate with campus partners to assist with students’ health and wellness needs.
  • Ability to comply with state laws, rules, regulations, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to function in new and emergent situations.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Missouri RN licensure in accordance with Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range

$56,200.00 - $96,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
