Software Engineer, Full-Stack (Genie)
Komodo HealthAbout the role
We Breathe Life Into Data
At Komodo Health, our mission is to reduce the global burden of disease. And we believe that smarter use of data is essential to this mission. That’s why we built the Healthcare Map — the industry’s largest, most complete, precise view of the U.S. healthcare system — by combining de-identified, real-world patient data with innovative algorithms and decades of clinical experience. The Healthcare Map serves as our foundation for a powerful suite of software applications, helping us answer healthcare’s most complex questions for our partners. Across the healthcare ecosystem, we’re helping our clients unlock critical insights to track detailed patient behaviors and treatment patterns, identify gaps in care, address unmet patient needs, and reduce the global burden of disease.
As we pursue these goals, it remains essential to us that we stay grounded in our values: be awesome, seek growth, deliver “wow,” and enjoy the ride. At Komodo, you will be joining a team of ambitious, supportive Dragons with diverse backgrounds but a shared passion to deliver on our mission to reduce the burden of disease — and enjoy the journey along the way.
The Opportunity at Komodo Health
Komodo serves a wide variety of clients who leverage our expertise in healthcare data and our ability to extract relevant insights from it. As we grow, we continue to invest in powerful internal tools that allow Komodo engineers and Client facing personnel to ask and instantaneously answer complex questions using healthcare data. The internal products will aim to expose advanced features that will only be possible due to the vast breadth of knowledge Komodo Health has about healthcare data.
This role will be a key contributor to the continued development and maintenance of an existing internal-facing SPA analytics product, Genie, while also creating new products to serve internal needs to answer healthcare data questions faster. The engineer will be expected to bridge all the technologies from the front-end, to the APIs that power the front-end, and the OLAP data backend, Snowflake. The engineer will also be expected to work with the relevant Komodo platform teams to enable sustained development of global features that are useful for external products as well as the internal products.
Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health, you will have…
- Worked on adding significant new features to Genie built on React and FastAPI, which are widely used by Komodo employees to answer healthcare data questions
- Gained a deep understanding of the various types of healthcare datasets Komodo Health ingests and the type of questions that are asked off this data both internally and externally
- Worked with product managers focused on developing our internal products to identify and develop the roadmap to continue making internal data analysis easier
- Developed new adjunct products that leverage modern technologies such as streamlit and RPA to create simpler workflows for our users
- Developed a platform for hosting a variety of dashboards, both interactive and non-interactive, that are created by Komodo’s data scientists
- Integrated with other Komodo Platform APIs to acquire both data and performance from other application processes such as access control
- Established good code quality and development practices, including CI/CD, significant unit and integration test coverage and practices
What you bring to Komodo:
- Experience with API development in Python (ideally but not necessarily using FastAPI), with ability to interface with a React frontend
- Ability to add features to and maintain React applications alongside front-end engineers
- Experience in writing enterprise-level code and maintaining good development practices (CI/CD using github actions, unit tests and integration tests)
- Develop and maintain basic infrastructure deployment pipelines within AWS
- Experience setting up and maintaining relational database backends for our applications on cloud systems like AWS RDS
- Some experience working with OLAP systems such as Snowflake, and large complex analytical queries
