Your Opportunity: Taylor Corporation is seeking a Business Data Analyst Intern to play a key role in analytics development initiatives in our Strategic Data Analytics group. The SDA team is responsible for working with internal company stakeholders to build analytical solutions.
The Business Data Analyst Intern will touch all stages of our analytics implementation process, including client requirements gathering, upfront analysis, documentation, as well as data modeling and report development activities.
Your Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for business stakeholders and clients, translating complex technical information into easy-to-understand terms for the business and converting business requirements into technical specifications for development teams.
- Facilitate discovery sessions and requirements gathering, validating data source systems, functional specifications, and UI/UX expectations.
- Clearly document requirements and functional specifications, creating mock-ups, prototypes, ad-hoc queries, and other artifacts to support these requirements.
- Define and track key metrics, determining how to measure and collect the necessary data.
- Translate new business requests into formal proposals, including drafting statements of work, timelines, deliverable expectations, and scopes of work.
- Develop visualizations and reports grounded in statistical best practices to effectively communicate results and key findings to internal customers.
- Educate users on how to use and interpret analytical dashboards.
- Perform gap analysis of current state and needed analytics applications in collaboration with the Analytics Manager, Data Architects, and Report Developers.
- Contribute to the development of AI models or software tools to enhance data analysis capabilities and streamline business processes.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Is currently enrolled in a four-year college/university undergraduate program, majoring in Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field
- Has effective project management skills, ensuring adherence to client timelines and business needs while prioritizing efforts across multiple clients
- Has strong mathematics and statistics abilities
- Has excellent writing, listening, and client-facing communication skills, including the ability to interact at a director-level or higher and explain complicated or technical information in a simple way to non-technical audiences
- Has demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively within a team environment and independently on projects, showcasing strong self-motivation and initiative
- Preferred: Understanding of relational database systems and the ability to query and analyze raw data for modeling and validation purposes
- Preferred: Experience in building reports and dashboards in self-service reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, Birst, etc.)
- Preferred: Exposure to development practices, including familiarity with software development life cycles, version control systems, and agile methodologies
Additional Requirements:
- Curiosity and passion about data, visualization, and solving problems
- Creativity to determine the best solution for a real-world problem with quantitative data
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office product suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio); advanced Excel skills required
- Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate meetings with strong presentation skills
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of supply chain preferred
- Exposure to data warehousing, data modeling, predictive analytics, machine learning, process simulation, or optimization techniques, particularly as it relates to supply chain preferred
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $16-22. The actual pay offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licens
