Position Information
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a research and extension team focused on urban horticulture, with an emphasis on controlled environment crop physiology and production systems. The goal is to improve crop yield, quality, and resource use efficiency. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct both basic and applied research in greenhouses and indoor growth chambers. The postdoctoral research position will focus on urban agriculture, with an emphasis on controlled environment crop physiology and production systems.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, and conduct experiments in support of various research projects.
- Quantify whole plant responses (e.g., gas exchanges, chlorophyll fluorescence, and others)
- Use data loggers to collect environmental data and use of imaging system/tools
- Analyze plant nutritional quality using spectrophotometers and HPLC
- Statistical analysis and preparation of manuscripts for publications
- Assist grant proposal writing
- Supervise undergraduate students and other lab personnel
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Appropriate PhD in horticulture, or closely related disciplines.
- Training and experience in scientific research in greenhouses and growth chambers
- Ability to plan and conduct research independently
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with others and supervise part-time employees
- Demonstrated ability to publish in refereed journals
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience in plant physiology under controlled environments
- Experience using data loggers and environmental sensors for automated data acquisition, as well as conducting leaf gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements
- Familiarity with various hydroponic production systems
- Proficiency with spectrophotometers and HPLC for the analysis of nutritional quality and phytoch
