Director of Product

The Director of Product is responsible for inbound and outbound product management efforts. Working closely with engineering and commercial leadership, your goal is to drive innovation in SaaS and use modern techniques (including AI/ML) to encapsulate Percona’s nearly two decades of expertise into new products that will be compelling to our customers.  You’ll also be building a company-wide roadmap to ensure Percona’s continued commercial success and strong reputation as a leader in the OSS database space.

Reporting to the CTO, you will collaborate with customers, partners, product managers, and expert technologists at Percona; translating the product vision into a compelling strategy and roadmap that Percona's engineering teams will confidently implement. You will balance time and scope to ensure that we are delivering value to Percona’s customers and community.

What You Will Do

• Working with the CTO as well as Percona’s commercial and product leadership, you will continue to build and evolve our product vision, expressed in a company-wide roadmap.

• Identify product and market opportunities through customer, community, and stakeholder interactions, e.g., conducting surveys or contacting existing customers directly to understand exactly what they are looking for.

• Work closely with Sales and Customer Success peers in order to understand the market and our customers.

• Manage a group of talented Product Managers to ensure alignment of our tactical plans with Percona’s goals and strategic vision, and support the success of each product family.

• Continually evaluate the roadmaps to ensure we’re focusing our engineering talent on the right initiatives that bring the biggest impact. 

• Be an active voice in the community bringing awareness to our own products but also bringing valuable insights back to the team. This will include attending and speaking at events, webinars, and conferences.

What You Have Done

• A strong understanding of and experience with open-source projects/products.

• The communication, collaboration, and analytical skills needed to apply that experience to improve Percona’s OSS and commercial offerings.

• You have led product management around enterprise IT software, including experience shipping new products.

• The ability to understand customers’ business challenges and needs and how those  can translate to products that delight the customer.

• You have a meaningful technical background and are able to speak credibly on technical topics and join in technical discussions where needed.

• Experience in working with inter-departmental stakeholders to successfully develop and deliver software products and solutions.

• Ability to break down barriers and drive improvement across functions.

• Excellent work ethic, self-motivated and self-managed, strong organizational skills & ability to meet deadlines.

• Language skills: English fluently, additional languages appreciated.

• Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills, including public speaking skills.

• Willing to travel occasionally on business (as travel conditions permit).

• Depending on your home time zone, willingness to adjust your working schedule on occasion to accommodate video calls with customers in different countries.

• Experience working with open source communities as an active member who is involved with various open-source projects.

• Experience in the cloud native / Kubernetes space.
