What You Will Do
P&W is seeking candidates for a Technology Manager (TM) in Combustor & Cases responsible for the strategic leadership, customer relationships, and resourcing the state-of-the-art advancements in combustion systems that will propel P&W at the forefront of aviation as the recognized leader for highly effective combustion systems design and aircraft emissions.
A critical leadership role, the technology manager will work broadly across P&W and industry to define and manage the technology portfolio of combustion systems, including commercial and military applications, small engine applications for munitions, auxiliary power units, primary power units, and advanced concepts for new fuels or other propulsion cycles with main burner combustion. Internally, the TM will develop competitive understanding, prioritize highest value for resource investment in test facilities and modeling, and provide strategic direction through the use of roadmaps. External industry leadership will include relationships and advocacy for an investment portfolio with external stakeholders, government agencies, aerospace partners, and university centers of excellence.
Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, as the TM needs to clearly communicate with executive leadership, module center management, program management, senior engineering leadership and the customer to align the investment and execution of our technology portfolio. While this is a non-supervisory role, the TM as an active member in the hot section engineering leadership team, will serve as a mentor and assessor to staff talent needed to execute technology advancements. Excellent communication and leadership skills are needed to junior staff for their development and effective engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Technology portfolio management for design elements less than TRL6 with a deployment horizon of 0-20 years, with supporting advancements in modeling, design system, and validation.
- Technical leadership to all aspects for combustion system advancements (thermodynamics, sprays, emissions, aerodynamic design, durability technologies, system architecture, and integration of materials, coatings, hole drilling for produceable designs).
- Lead organizational adherence to P&W technology development in the TRL and MRL process. Owner and leader to define and execute technology development plans.
- Owner of competitive benchmarking and gap analysis to P&W vs. competitors current and future forecast.
- Facilitate business case development of combustion technologies.
- Facilitate and integrate COE and University partnerships for combustion systems.
- P&W rig development for combustion systems
- Proposal leadership to win contracts that supports P&W technology portfolio execution.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 12 years of experience in engineering with a bachelor’s degree, or 10 years with an advanced degree
- U.S. Citizen required due to government contracts
Qualifications We Prefer:
- BS Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. Advanced degree in aspects of propulsion engineering
- Excellent Judgment and professional maturity
- The ability to build positive relationships and craft clear communication
- Experience in P&W IPD execution
- Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
