Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties (BGCSDC) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic professional to join our team as a Sports & Wellness Programs Specialist. This position plays a key role in designing, leading, and managing engaging sports-based programming that promotes physical activity, teamwork, leadership, and positive youth development for teens. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth sports, understands the role athletics play in building confidence and life skills, and can effectively integrate wellness concepts—such as fitness, resilience, and sportsmanship—into a dynamic sports environment. 

 

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities) 


Design and deliver engaging athletic programs that promote physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and healthy competition. 


Lead intramural leagues, tournaments, and recreational sports as a core component of BGCSDC programming. 


Facilitate weekly practices and skill‑building sessions that emphasize teamwork, goal‑setting, communication, and problem-solving. 


Integrate age-appropriate fitness, injury prevention, conditioning, and mental resilience concepts into all programming to support overall athlete development. 


Coordinate logistics and execute sports-focused events such as tournaments, Teen Health Week, Summer Skills Series, and other athletic showcases or competitions. 


Develop creative recruitment and retention strategies to increase teen participation in sports programs, ensuring access and inclusivity for all skill levels and backgrounds. 


Build and sustain strong partnerships with schools, athletic organizations, community recreation providers, and other stakeholders to expand opportunities for teens. 


Track participation and program outcomes to evaluate impact and continuously improve program quality. 


Support overall teen development by reinforcing healthy habits, positive decision-making, and emotional well-being through athletics. 

QualificationsRequirements:


Bachelor’s Degree required (Sports Management, Physical Education, Youth Development, or related field highly preferred). 


3+ years of experience in youth sports programming, coaching, recreation, or youth development preferred. 


cExperience organizing leagues, tournaments, or structured athletic programs. 


Strong leadership, organizational, and program management skills. 


Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. 


Ability to motivate and engage teens of diverse backgrounds and athletic abilities. 


Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners. 


Belief in and commitment to the mission, values, and standards of BGCSDC 

Pass pre-employment background screening and drug test.
