JOB SUMMARY:

The Jefferson County Commission is currently accepting applications for internship opportunities for Summer 2025. These are paid internships that offer excellent real world work experience for a variety of career areas.

The Jefferson County Commission aims to provide exceptional everyday service through character and competence by being a model local government that anticipates and meets the evolving needs of a diverse community with energy, character, dedication, and accountability. This service comes through a variety of departments, such as Environmental Services, Roads & Transportation, General Services, Finance, Community Services, and Information Technology Services.

Interns with Jefferson County Commission shadow professionals in their areas of interest like civil engineering, application development, accounting, and more.

The internship will start on May 12, 2025, and end on August 1, 2025.

Board of Equalization Department
Our Board of Equalization Internship is geared towards Undergraduate and Graduate students studying Business, Public Administration, and/or a similar field of study. Interns will be able to transfer classroom knowledge learned in their academic programs while learning governmental procedures around budgeting and policy development while identifying opportunities for enhancement and efficiency. Board of Equalization Interns may acquire:

  • Knowledge of filing systems based on State and departmental standards.

  • Computerized inventory maintenance skills

  • Enhanced attention to detail and time management capabilities

QUALIFICATIONS:
Interested students must meet the following requirements to be considered for a Jefferson County Commission internship:

  • College Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program with at least a junior status (An applicant is considered a junior if they will have completed all junior credits (90 or more semester hours) by the time the internship begins and will be entering at least the senior year immediately following completion of the internship)
  • Students must be studying a field related to training and work to be performed in the intern position
  • The applicant must be in good academic standing (not on academic probation) regardless of education level (high school, undergraduate, or graduate), with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated with a desire to learn

Pay scale:

  • Graduate Student: $22.39 USD per hour 
  • Undergraduate Student: $16.79 USD per hour
