Star Headlight & Lantern was founded in 1889 by five founding owners. In 2023, Grote Industries acquired Star which now operates as Star Safety Technologies by Grote. The company maintains production in Rochester, New York, and its vicinity with the current headquarters and manufacturing center in Avon, New York.

Position Summary: Working at Star means you’ll be working constantly in a cross-functional team across a variety of tasks. On any given day, you might be called upon to analyze a subassembly or be assigned to be the design lead on a complex system. You will be expected to engage with manufacturing to help realize our innovations by coordinating new projects between customer and production. We want you to utilize innovation to drive business with a blend of rigorous analysis and enthusiasm for making great products.

Position Duties: The Electronics Technician will coordinate and perform lab duties including component approvals, product and component life/temperature testing, circuit analysis, test fixture build/repair, and assist with training and managing of lab employees. They will work to manage environmental compliance by organizing requests from customers and defining lists for purchasing. The incumbent will perform failure analysis on circuits from production and returns from customers.


Requirements: A minimum of a 2-year Electrical Technician associate degree is required, and a 4-year bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related electronics job is required with a leadership role desired. The new team member should have a working knowledge of electronic circuits, be skilled in the art of circuit analysis, and have good understanding of oscilloscope and other electronic test equipment. A basic level knowledge of Excel and other general office software is required.
