We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Full-Time Building Maintenance Worker at William Paterson University. The building custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of assigned buildings on campus. The schedule will include 4 days in the week and 1 day on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday).
Job Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Sanitizing: Perform regular cleaning duties to ensure a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces such as desks, windows, and common areas.
- Waste Management: Empty all trash cans and recycling bins, safeguarding proper disposal and adherence to recycling guidelines. Replace trash bags as needed.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors. Restock supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
- Floor and Carpet Care: Maintain the appearance of floors and carpets by sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming as necessary. Notify supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs.
- Surface Disinfection: Regularly sanitize high touch surfaces such as doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and elevator buttons.
- Set up and Breakdown: Assist with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment for events and meetings as needed.
- Reporting and Documentation: Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner. Keep accurate records of cleaning activities and supplies used.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other custodial staff for consistent and efficient cleaning practices throughout the campus. Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members regarding work schedules, tasks, and any issues or concerns.
- Customer Service: Provide friendly and helpful customer service to students, staff, and visitors. Respond to requests and inquiries in a professional and prompt manner.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Physical stamina to perform job duties such as lifting and moving furniture, walking, standing, and bending for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work evening or weekend shifts as needed.
Note: This is a full-time position with an average of 40 hours per week. The schedule may vary and may include evenings and weekends.
IPFTE Grade 9 - Starting Salary - $42,205.77
Note: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's formula.
