CFD Analysis Engineer

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL (Ranked #1 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News 2022). ASED has been a primary contractor for NASA since 1989 and supports marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System, International Space Station, space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences and advanced propulsion system development. As a partner in NASA’s next generation of space exploration, our jobs are literally history in the making.

Position Description:

This position will provide Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis support to the Aerosciences branch (EV33) in the Structural Design and Analysis Division (EV30) at MSFC’s Spacecraft and Vehicle Systems Department. CFD team applies engineering expertise to the design and development launch vehicles and landers by providing analysis vital to the mission success.

Responsibilities: 

Specific support to be provided includes, but is not limited to, the following: 

·        Generate meshes for geometrically complex launch vehicles.

·        Setup and perform simulations of launch vehicle external aerodynamics, heating, and plume environments.

·        Post-process CFD solutions to identify areas of concern, draw conclusions regarding aerodynamic and aerothermal environments.

·        Apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other work features that are broad in scope and complexity.

·        Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from various engineering tasks.

·        Prepare and present analyses results to technical teams and review boards.

·        Develop and deliver analyses products, documents, presentations, and action item responses.

·        Participate in reviews, meetings, teleconferences, and working groups. 

·        Communicate issues, best practices, lessons-learned and other technical positions related to aerothermal analyses.

·        Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks.

·        Deliver project briefings to all levels of management. 

·        Provide clear and effective communication with internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Here's What You'll Need:

 A degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Bachelor's with 0 - 5 years (or Master’s with 0 - 3 years) of relevant experience. Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.

·        Experience in theoretical/computational analyses of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and aerodynamics of space transportation vehicles.

·        Experience using CFD mesh generation packages.

·        Experience with high-fidelity CFD software.

·        Experience with programming languages
