This is a skilled working crew leader position leading, planning and coordinating the work of a crew of semi-skilled workers implementing an integrated pest program using mechanical, biological, and chemical control techniques.  This position performs activities similar to those workers it leads.The single position allocated to this classification reports to a designated supervisor and works under limited supervision.  Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its emphasis on leading a crew of semi-skilled workers in the implementation of an integrated pest management program, assisting others in the implementation of an integrated aquatic vegetation management program, and performing duties similar to the workers it leads.

This is a skilled working crew leader position leading, planning and coordinating the work of a crew of semi-skilled workers implementing an integrated pest program using mechanical, biological, and chemical control techniques.  This position performs activities similar to those workers it leads.

The single position allocated to this classification reports to a designated supervisor and works under limited supervision.  Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its emphasis on leading a crew of semi-skilled workers in the implementation of an integrated pest management program, assisting others in the implementation of an integrated aquatic vegetation management program, and performing duties similar to the workers it leads.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Leads, plans, and coordinates the work of a crew of semi-skilled workers performing a variety of pest management activities.

Assists Stormwater Services Coordinator in the implementation of an integrated aquatic vegetation management program.

Performs activities similar to those workers it leads.

Provides training and instruction to subordinates.

Provides significant input into regular and periodic performance reviews of subordinates.

Reviews, verifies and approves subordinate time worked, approves timesheets and forwards to Timekeeper for processing.

Inspects work for compliance with plans, performance standards, and all applicable federal, state, local, and department safety regulations.

Assures that appropriate safety procedures are followed on work sites. 

Initiates workplace accident paperwork on the job site and forwards to supervisor for investigation.

Applies preventive measures to factors and situations, which contribute to growth and development of mosquito populations.

Applies controls over acknowledged mosquito populations and breeding sites utilizing EPA-approved mosquito control pesticides, techniques and departmental guidelines.

Safely operates a vehicle with a mounted ultra-low-volume (ULV) sprayer.

Utilizes a backpack sprayer with hand-held mounted wand for applying pesticides and herbicides.

Utilizes a backpack blower for applying granular pesticides and herbicides.

Utilizes a hand-held fogger for applying pesticides.

Utilizes hand tools and small engine equipment to maintain ingress and egress access points to breeding sites.

Maintains mechanical/biological mosquito control program during non-breeding season.

Assists in the maintenance of mechanical/biological aquatic vegetation control program during non-breeding season

Administers mosquito larviciding program throughout the year.

Maintains and monitors breeding sites on scheduled basis.

Uses accepted methods of field sampling for both larvae and adult mosquitoe
