About the role
Job Summary
The VP, Global Tax Compliance & Planning will report to the Senior Vice President, Global Tax and provide critical leadership, organization and support to the Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) income tax compliance and planning efforts. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing appropriate internal and external resources to ensure timely, accurate filings worldwide.
- Identifying, developing and concluding on tax planning opportunities.
- Engaging across functions to lead planning and transformative projects through to completion.
- Managing team development and performance.
- Providing appropriate executive-level communications for your area of responsibility.
- Expected Contributions Tax Compliance – directly lead MVW’s federal and foreign income tax and transfer pricing compliance, and other global reporting requirements. Lead your team in providing hands-on assistance. Review MVW forecasts and coordinate with the VP, Tax Accounting & Reporting by providing the impact on global tax income resulting from tax planning initiatives or risks identified in the compliance process. Monitor and report on key tax attributes as reflected in MVW’s tax filings to ensure key transactions and other planning opportunities have been reported.
- Tax Planning – provide value-add tax services to minimize MVW’s tax liabilities, coordinating closely with the VP Tax, Transactions by establishing and integrating tax planning strategies into the Transactions team’s acquisition and business development efforts. Lead the tax team’s technical advisory services in support of MVW. Identify tax risks and manage these within MVW’s standards for business conduct and applicable laws. Implement mitigation and reduction strategies for federal and foreign income taxes and provide for operationalization of same. Seek out opportunities to strategically optimize MVW’s tax position. Proactively communicate directly with executive management regarding the financial effects of key strategies and legislative changes.
- Manage Outside Service Firms – In close coordination with the SVP, Global Tax, manage all aspects of delivery by outside service firms supporting global income tax compliance efforts. Ensure proper standards and budgets are established and met in their delivery of services and work products, including adhering to MVW’s code of conduct.
- Talent Development & Leadership – in conjunction with the rest of MVW’s senior tax leadership, create a climate that fosters individual professional development and establish an operational framework to meet or exceed expectations for tax compliance performance. Direct and lead all aspects of MVW’s tax compliance & planning function. Responsible for building, managing, and maintaining a high-performance, cross-functional team through effective talent recruitment, coaching, and development. Set high standards, establish accountabilities and measure performance consistent with MVW’s values. Build and maintain effective relationships across functions and with outside service providers. Take the lead in reporting to executive management tax value created.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Minimum of 12-15 years’ applicable work experience demonstrating success in positions of progressively greater responsibility.
- Work experience in complex multi-national corporate groups.
- Strong tax technical knowledge in all areas of federal, state/local and international corporate tax.
- Five plus years in a supervisory role with demonstrated success leading and developing a functional team in a complex, service-intensive, and deadline-driven environment.
- Timeshare, real estate development, or hospitality experience preferred.
Education and Certification:
- Advanced degree required: Master of Tax or Accounting, MBA, JD or equivalent.
- Preferred: CPA or BAR member
