Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an Office Assistant to work in the Healthcare Unit at Menard Correctional Center. This position serves as a secretary, keyboards a variety of difficult material and completes miscellaneous reports.  We invite all qualified applicants to apply. 

Essential Functions

  • Completes miscellaneous reports using computer created forms.
  • Keyboards a variety of difficult material including records, monthly surgical reports, memoranda, correspondence, confidential nursing evaluations and other documents utilizing medical terminology.
  • Extracts medical data from physician’s appointment lines to verify inquired diagnostic laboratory work is completed.
  • Serves as secretary for both monthly nurse and medical technician staff meetings and Illinois Nurses’ Associate meetings.
  • Using a computer, gathers data and creates reports to communicate policy and procedural practices and changes to staff.
  • Assists in the Medical Records Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one year of related office experience.
