A Team Leader is responsible for assuming responsibility for total team functions relative to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and teamwork. The Team Leader will report directly to the Supervisor. Their principal responsibilities will be to supervise and coordinate team activities including but not limited to delegating work assignments, inventory management, training new team members, filling in for absent team members, initiating corrective action and performing the verbal step of the corrective action procedure, policy adherence, safety and environmental compliance, quality compliance, records retention, facilitating the e-cubed process, and conducting huddles.

Job purpose

A Team Leader is responsible for assuming responsibility for total team functions relative to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and teamwork. The Team Leader will report directly to the Supervisor. Their principal responsibilities will be to supervise and coordinate team activities including but not limited to delegating work assignments, inventory management, training new team members, filling in for absent team members, initiating corrective action and performing the verbal step of the corrective action procedure, policy adherence, safety and environmental compliance, quality compliance, records retention, facilitating the e-cubed process, and conducting huddles.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure team compliance to safety and environmental rules and regulations
  • Conduct team huddles to communicate safety talks and other pertinent information
  • Ensure team compliance to QS9000/TS16949 guidelines
  • Perform inventory management to assist with on-time delivery
  • Setup and operate equipment assigned to the team
  • Attend department meetings and plant-wide huddles
  • Provide on the job training to team members including safety and quality aspects.
  • Cover for absent team members
  • Meet performance stands and document shortfalls
  • Ensure necessary records are retained, such as scrap reporting, downtime tracking, SPC, and set-up sheets
  • Assigns daily duties to team members and ensures team members follow standard work and/or work instructions
  • Ensure 5S standards are met daily
  • Oversee continuous training of operators. Provide guidance and leadership in teamwork, production processes, set-up, and other items pertinent to departmental success
  • Other duties as assigned

What we’re looking for

  • High School diploma or GED, Associates Degree preferred
  • Ability to attain a forklift license within 30 days
  • Ability to work overtime during shift overlaps and when other team leaders are absent
  • Computer skills to work with Microsoft programs
  • Solid mechanical skills and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledgeable of SPC
  • Strong interpersonal skills relative to leading a team: conflict resolution, motivation, delegation, etc.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with leading a team
