Position Summary
The Research Assistant supports ongoing research in virology, immunology, and disease prevention in livestock and humans. This position focuses on viral evolution, interspecies transmission, pathogenesis, immunity, and the development of vaccines and diagnostic tools. The role involves conducting laboratory assays, managing animal experiments, maintaining lab protocols, and supporting data analysis and lab operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct virology, immunology, and molecular biology assays.
- Assist in animal experiments involving pigs, cattle, poultry, and other species.
- Generate, organize, and analyze research data using computer-based tools.
- Test and evaluate new or revised research protocols and reagents.
- Maintain inventories of samples, reagents, and supplies; place supply orders as needed.
- Manage and update IACUC, IBC, IRB protocols and lab SOPs.
- Provide general lab training to new personnel and lead shared lab responsibilities.
- Complete annual lab safety inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of relevant laboratory or research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in virology, immunology, or molecular biology techniques.
- Familiarity with animal handling and experimental procedures.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with regulatory protocols (IACUC, IBC, IRB) and lab safety compliance.
