Senior Client Manager
Swiss ReAbout the role
About the Role
Governments and other public sector entities are becoming increasingly aware of the various risks they absorb as explicit or implicit risk takers. Over the last decade, Swiss Re has invested in educating public sector entities about this changing paradigm and identifying ways that risk transfer can help governments handle these new fiscal challenges. Through our risk transfer products and solutions, we aim to help these clients accelerate economic development, reduce disaster suffering by expediting recovery, improve their risk awareness and deepen social resilience.
To reach our bold targets, we are looking for a Senior Client Manager who is passionate about the public sector and is eager for a new challenge to help the team solidify this client segment as an important element of Swiss Re's growth strategy across its reinsurance and insurance businesses.
Primary Activities:
- Developing and implementing a growth strategy for public sector clients in North America, and more specifically the US
- Systematically approaching government entities (e.g., federal, state, and local governments, public entity risk pools, utilities, universities, and transportation entities) in the US to understand their risk financing needs.
- Originating deals with government entities, by working with Swiss Re colleagues across business units to develop solutions for our clients' risks.
- Leading internal cross-functional teams across all business divisions of Swiss Re to bring transactions over the finishing line.
- Building and managing relationships with clients, brokers and other critical partners such as research organizations, legislative bodies, not-for-profits, and trade associations.
New York City, Armonk or Washington, D.C. are the preferred locations; however, candidates from other Swiss Re locations in the US will also be seriously considered.
About the Team
This position, while based in the U.S. and within the Americas team, is part of a team that spans geographies and includes other client managers and product managers. We provide risk transfer solutions that range from non-traditional risk transfer products such as catastrophe bonds to insurance coverages for barrier reefs. Our main activities are related to natural catastrophes and weather risks, but also to liability schemes, agriculture, credit & surety and life & health.
About You
- Client centric, persistent and can turn customer needs into transactions by prioritizing follow-ups from leads and transaction management. Understanding and addressing the needs of these clients are at the core of the proposed approach.
- More than 7 years of experience in the (non-life) insurance market or client-facing public finance market and the ambition to build on existing strong network by collaborating with public entities, brokers, and other partners.
- Experience working on debt issuance/underwriting or as a financial advisor to states, municipalities and/or public entities.
- Deep understanding of at least one of the main risks (natural catastrophes, weather, credit etc.) and the corresponding risk transfer products and are interested to learn the entire suite of products and solutions to offer our clients.
- Excellent team player and able to lead virtual deal teams that include a diverse group of specialists (structuring, pricing, underwriting and legal) to close transactions.
- Work closely with colleagues in industrialized and emerging markets to share business experience and accelerate deal closings across the Americas region.
- Set priorities when working on several projects in parallel.
- Perseverance as some of the opportunities can take longer than the average Swiss Re transaction and creativity as we might need to envision a new market or solution.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the country.
