VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our 24-hour Internal Medicine service!

VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists was established in West Palm Beach in 1998 and has flourished from a single-specialty practice into a full-service, multi-disciplinary, specialty-only practice.
We reside within a 32,000 sq. ft. facility, operating 24/7/365, which includes an in-house national reference laboratory, blood bank, and Education Center with a 125-seat auditorium, conference room and meeting hall used to provide continuing education programs. Our Advanced Imaging department offers on-site MRI, CT, C-Arm and Linear Accelerator (Halcyon).
Compensation: $20 - $30 / hr Is based on skill set, experience, and licensure status.
Schedule: Flexible schedule, 4 days, on-call rotation

About the Role
Summary:
Our hospital provides specialty care services 5-6 days a week. This role supports our specialty veterinarians and assists hospital staff by managing appointments, delivering medical care—including administering treatments and assisting with procedures as directed by the veterinarian. Additional duties include helping with patient care, maintaining the facility, completing treatments, supporting surgeries, and handling all other responsibilities related to animal care and the overall operation of the veterinary hospital.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Ability to perform a cursory exam and collect patient vitals.
Recognize and report any potentially urgent medical issues to doctors immediately.
Ensure timely vitals and doctor evaluations for appointments, transfers, and consults.
Collect and prepare lab samples and perform tasks if a lab technician is unavailable.
Check in with clients in exam rooms at least every 20-30 minutes. Provide guidance to doctors on which order to see cases and perform procedures.
Provide guidance to technicians and assistants on how to prioritize tasks and admit new cases.
Prepare/facilitate treatment plans/estimates for IM and other departments according to the doctor’s recommendations.
Review all invoices, histories, and treatment plans to verify accuracy; update estimates as necessary.
Ensure records from pcDVM and referring hospitals have been received before the appointment..
Help prepare discharge instructions and double-check that medications are correct; ensure that discharges are executed in a timely and clear manner.
Facilitate prescriptions needing to be called in or compounded for in-house patients Distribute incoming lab results to the appropriate doctor(s).
Assist with scheduling advanced diagnostic imaging and anesthesia.
Proactively set up for procedures Review sedation protocols for accuracy and safety, ensure they are appropriate for each task. Post-procedure take-down, room sanitizing, and equipment sterilization and storage.
Assist with maintaining a clean environment; ensure the department is clean and stocked daily.
Ensure that client-patient visits go smoothly: answer questions, provide blankets, water, etc.
Ensure follow-up calls and returned calls to clients are made promptly.
Ensure that ECC doctors have been rounded before the Internist(s) leave each day.
Produce SSR forms twice per week and keep the department appropriately stocked, including special order items and chemo supplies.

- Assist other technicians/assistants, helping the department to run more efficiently or to help advance their skill levels when needed.
- Play an integral role in managing cases and workload for the IM department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility.
- Must be friendly, outgoing, “people oriented.”
- Excellent communications skills.
