About the role

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
As a Financial Analyst, this role puts you right in the middle of operational finance at TBC. Responsible for analyzing real business drivers, building forecasting tools, and helping leadership make crucial decisions. It is a full time role based at our HQ in Bastrop (15 miles east of Austin).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze current and historical financial data, spending patterns, and operational performance to identify trends and generate insights that inform business decisions.
  • Work closely with members of the finance team to review financial information and contribute to building forecasts that reflect real operational activity.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by organizing data, validating assumptions, and helping develop financial models used for planning.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports, analyses, and projections that help leadership understand financial performance and evaluate key business questions.
  • Assist with related finance activities when needed, including coordination with accounting and procure to pay processes to ensure accurate financial information across the organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (you use keyboard shortcuts and work very fast).
  • Proficient with Power BI, and a good understanding of data structures and pipelines.
  • 2 years of experience in a financial analyst position in a sizable operating company, or alternatively a MS in Finance.
  • Ability to conceptualize the flow of transactions across financial statements and logically tie numbers to business operations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in an asset intensive business, e.g., manufacturing, construction, transportation, etc.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Insane attention to detail.
  • You've already figured out to use AI agents to support financial analysis.
  • You have proven ability to efficiently multitask and work within challenging deadlines.
  • You can work independently, with little to no oversight, and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages (NetSuite or similar ERP is a strong plus).
  • Strong analytical skills doubled with the ability to problem-solve accounting matters.
