About the role

Facilities Management at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a Custodial Services Supervisor role that support both the Academic and Health System areas across the University.  This is an exciting opportunity to those new to supervisory roles that have experience in commercial custodial work!  We are looking for leaders who are self-starters, enthusiastic about working with a strong team, and more importantly, passionate about the cleaning industry within higher education.  If you are reliable, self-motivated, have a strong work ethic, and work well within a team, we want to hear from you!

The Custodial Services Supervisors are responsible for providing clean and healthy environments for the University Academic and Health System facilities by supervising up to approximately 10 - 15 employees in performing safe and critical custodial management tasks. The Supervisor maintains department expectations of providing high quality and consistent service by supervising, scheduling, and training the work force. The Supervisor maintains positive and professional relationships with facility occupants, staff, colleagues, students, visitors, and department leadership.

There are multiple openings and shifts available; shifts include: 5:00am-1:30pm, and 6:00am – 2:30pm. $1,500 sign-on bonus for all new hires to the University!

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Duties Include:

  • Develop and implement custodial work schedules for assigned areas. Maintain written records of work scheduled and completed.

  • Supervise members of custodial team and provide them with frequent and constructive feedback.

  • Ensure all required custodial projects are completed in a timely, professional manner.

  • Track purchases and update inventories.

  • Conduct and submit routine safety inspections.

  • Ability to work independently, be proactive with managing workload, and anticipate operational/small-scale projects.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in custodial/housekeeping or another service industry is required. Experience in custodial maintenance, including the ability to demonstrate use of cleaning equipment and supplies, along with experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is a plus.

  • Licensure: A valid driver's license, with a zero or positive points balance is required and must be maintained while in this position.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $21.00-23.50/hour dependent on qualifications and experience. $1,500 sign-on bonus for all new hires to the University!

Physical Demands:

This position works around equipment/machinery, and includes standing on different surfaces, walking extensively, stooping and bending as well as moderate lifting and climbing stairs.
