Position Summary

The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for delivering and facilitating a variety of learning and development (L&D) programs for Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) non-academic staff, including delivering leadership development programs where necessary. Related to leadership development, this role will conduct 360-degree assessment debriefs and other competency assessment debriefs as necessary.

In addition, this role designs and develops learning solutions to increase employees’ knowledge in technical and leadership skills to fill skill gaps and provide opportunities for career development. Furthermore, this role evaluates existing Office of L&D programs, courses, and content, and recommends improvements for impact and alignment with organizational needs.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitates learning for staff at all levels within the organization using a variety of instructional methods, including face-to-face facilitation, virtual training, and workshops.
  • Meets one-on-one with WCM Leadership Program participants to conduct 360-degree leadership assessment debriefs to help leaders understand results and how to build development plans. Conducts other assessment debriefs at WCM as necessary.
  • Collaborates with leaders and key stakeholders across all areas to analyze and understand departmental learning and development needs.
  • Determines, in partnership with L&D leadership as needed, appropriate training delivery methods, and helps create learning in a variety of formats which may include classroom, virtual, self-guided eLearning, and on-the-job training.
  • Evaluates and continually improves existing programs, courses, and content. Identifies synergies and opportunities to provide the most effective learning solutions. Contributes innovative ideas.
  • Manages all aspects of New Employee Orientation (NEO), including facilitation, for incoming employees in both virtual and in person formats. Develops and maintains materials for NEO to ensure information is current, timely, and relevant.
  • Partners with colleagues to maintain and deliver the WCM Leadership Development Program.
  • Thinks critically, problem solves, and performs in an agile way. Manages multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizes tasks, and meets deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience

  • Approximately five years or more experience performing all aspects of employee learning and development, including in-person and virtual instructor-led training.
  • Experienced in meeting one-on-one with managers for coaching and/or assessment debrief sessions.
  • Experienced in conducting training needs analysis and in developing training materials (slide decks, job aids, facilitator guides, etc.).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and techniques.
  • Success Factors or other LMS (Learning Management System) administration experience a plus. SharePoint experience, a plus.
  • Human resources experience, including exposure to HR laws and practices, a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability at in-person facilitation, as well as facilitating using Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Strong work ethic; organized, self-sufficient, motivated; able to work independently and hold oneself accountable for managing and delivering learning programs, delivering 360 debrief sessions, and meeting other job requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully conduct needs analyses and help create learning in a variety of formats.
  • Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple individual projects simultaneously.
  • Strong relationship management skills. Able to collaborate with and interact effectively across multiple stakeholders, including HR, the Staff and Organizational Development Department, and other departments to identify training and other needs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
