The Commodity Manager, is an individual contributor role within the central Collins Aerospace organization responsible for guiding the business on best-cost sourcing strategies that generate savings, improve spend on agreement, and maximize business terms. The Commodity Manager will support Mechanical-Fabrications within the Interiors Business Unit.  This product family contains build-to-print components and assemblies fabricated from sheet metal and tubing often containing hardware or unique raw materials and requiring special processes such as plating and welding.

You will often work with your peers in the other business units and Commodities cross-functionally with stakeholders within your assigned businesses from Procurement, Contracts, Supplier Quality, Engineering, and the Value Stream or Program Management. This is a strategic role that is data-driven, requires communication and presentation skills both internally and with suppliers, and manages various contract and project needs concurrently.

The person hired for this role may sit at any Collins Aerospace domestic location or remote.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drives contract coverage, best-cost supplier sourcing, business cash improvements, and supplier consolidation activities as key metrics
  • Partners with internal clients and stakeholders to identify sourcing needs and improve sourcing strategy
  • Supports a regular cadence of reviews for cost, risk, and strategy
  • Executes Commodity / account management and strategic sourcing strategy
  • Implements supply chain strategies from incumbent awards to buy-to-buy transitions according to Collins’ gated processes
  • Evaluates and selects suppliers based on capability, quality, reliability, and price competitiveness
  • Analyzes suppliers' operations to determine factors that affect prices and best cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules
  • Leads sourcing process from concept to contract signature including all documentation requirements through
  • Negotiates and awards contracts after gaining internal approvals and develops new qualified sources of supply after establishing a Master Terms Agreement
  • Responsible for overall relationship with one or multiple strategic accounts
  • Ensures supplier or commodity is performing to the designed requirements from a delivery, quality, and cost perspective aligned to the negotiated contract terms
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 15% of the time

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience 

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract 

  • 4+ years of prior supply chain experience

  • 2+ years experience with supplier management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with reading engineering drawings and specifications for Aerospace manufacturing
  • Ability to manage and interpret a large amount of spend data or supplier RFP responses
