Senior Satellite Engineer
IntelsatAbout the role
Your Impact:
Working in a team environment, you will demonstrate sound systems knowledge of the fundamentals of spacecraft operations spanning all spacecraft bus subsystems; to include attitude control, power, thermal, data handling and propulsion.
You must be able to apply professional engineering knowledge to the development, implementation, and maintenance of satellite operations systems and processes through the spacecraft lifecycle: from design review, operations integration and handover to long-term operations and decommissioning.
What you will do:
- Define and execute health monitoring of the spacecraft systems and subsystems throughout the satellites lifecycle.
- Lead technical review and implementation of manufacturer recommended operations.
- Drive identification, investigation, and resolution of system and subsystem deviations and anomalies including initial responses and follow-up.
- Lead development of satellite operations procedures, products and processes based on manufacturer’s documentation and operations protocol.
- Define, develop, test, and execute command plans to implement spacecraft configuration changes.
- Define and develop ground network systems requirements for the team’s satellite system and subsystem requirements This includes the development of test plans, conducting acceptance tests, and resolving issues.
- Develop software tools, methods, and procedures to improve testing and measurement capabilities.
- Test and assess the viability/compatibility of new systems and equipment.
- Perform on-call responsibilities on a rotating periodic basis. Available to support outside of normal business hours during the week and on weekends.
Your required experience/skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with at least 3-years of recent relevant experience.
- Specific knowledge and experience in Satellite Engineering/Operations.
- Computer experience is required to operate various satellite operations ground systems.
- Some familiarity with Object Oriented Programming Languages (for example Python, Java, C++)
- This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).

- Knowledge of one or more of the following spacecraft designs and operations: AIRBUS, Boeing, MAXAR or Northrop Grumman
- Complete understanding of the ground systems required for the team’s assigned spacecraft. Including tools required for trending, alarm management and commanding procedure development, testing and execution.
- You must be able to perform on-call responsibilities on a rotating periodic basis. Available to support outside of normal business hours during the week and on weekends.
Your success in this role will look like:
- Ability to make targeted decisions in a complex environment, enlisting support where appropriate.
- Represent the engineering team to customers in reviews, and technical discussions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, driving discussions to conclusion.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Self-starter with the ability provide results through excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and perform self-directed investigation.
- Capability to apply engineering principles and practices across spacecraft applications of engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, thermal logic, computer application.
- Ability to analyze time varying data in plots or tables for specific signatures.
- Natural curiosity to understand how engineering systems function and to analyze performance.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Apply analytical methods and skills to complex real-world problems.
It would be nice if you had:
- Expert knowledge of satellite systems or subsystems.
- Ability to draft specifications and evaluate proposals, with a complete understanding of the engineering team needs.
