Job Description

The Director of Workforce Development, Customized Training and Continuing Education, provides leadership, direction and vision for workforce development, Continuing Training and Continuing Education (CT/CE) activities at Lake Superior College.  The Director provides leadership in the design, development, review, articulation, and evaluation of Customized Training and Continuing Education initiatives.  The Director develops processes for identifying new and innovative outreach and customized training opportunities as well as other timely market-driven programs.  The Director will initiate and build partnerships with other higher education institutions, school districts, business and industry, government agencies and other entities in order to serve the region and state.  It is an expectation that the Director identifies financial resources that off-set expenses related to CT/CE activities. The Director will collaborate with Administration, Deans, and faculty to build on existing relationships while striving to development new relationships with regional business and employers, while demonstrating a commitment to working with diverse populations.

Salary Range:

$79,678 - $114,777 annually

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years’ supervisory experience in an education or business environment to include: market research, administration, and/or as a workforce development or customized training program director. A Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; Associate’s degree may substitute for six months of experience. 

  • Demonstrated progressive management responsibility working with business processes such as strategic planning, financial management, project management, customer service, human resource management and experience working with unionized environments

  • Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, time-management and human relations skills

  • Experience building and maintaining public/private partnerships and successful collaborations with various sectors and across departments or organizations.

  • Able to communicate clearly (written and oral), demonstrate timely follow up on tasks and projects, and high-level proficiency with typical office technology.

  • Broad knowledge of teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Master’s Degree, plus five years professional experience

  • Experience with a commitment to working with diverse populations.

  • Grant writing and administration experience.

  • Experience in facilitating market research.

  • Leadership experience with CT/CE workforce training programs and economic development initiatives.

  • Knowledge of community and technical college organization, curriculum, goals, vision, system policies and procedures, labor contracts, fiscal regulations.

  • Ability to work with faculty and industry partners to evaluate programs and implement changes and/or new programs.

  • Knowledge of online learning platforms.

  • Experience making presentations to small and large groups.

  • Experience in implementing an aggressive sales and marketing plan.
