Position Summary:
The Technical Biofuels Program Manager will lead the technical execution and continuous improvement of ADM’s participation in federal and state low carbon fuel programs. This role will focus on optimizing biofuel production processes, improving carbon intensity (CI) scores through operational and technological enhancements, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks. The position requires a strong technical background, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep understanding of low carbon fuel regulations and life-cycle assessment methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Execution
- Lead the technical build-out and execution of existing and emerging low carbon fuel programs, including the U.S. Federal Clean Fuel Production Credit (45Z), State Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) programs, and Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations.
- Translate regulatory requirements into actionable technical and operational strategies to ensure compliance and maximize credit generation.
- Develop and manage program documentation, data systems, and reporting protocols to support verification and audit processes.
- Partner with plant operations and engineering teams to identify, evaluate, and implement projects that reduce carbon intensity (CI) across biofuel production pathways.
- Utilize process data and life-cycle assessment (LCA) models to quantify CI impacts of operational changes and technology upgrades.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy efficiency, feedstock optimization, waste heat recovery, and renewable energy integration.
- Collaborate with the Low Carbon Life-Cycle Assessment team to validate CI reduction opportunities and ensure accurate data inputs for CI modeling.
- Work closely with Biofuels commercial, sales, and logistics teams to align technical strategies with market and compliance goals.
- Partner with Global IT and data management teams to ensure digital infrastructure supports accurate data capture, reporting, and traceability for regulatory programs.
- Coordinate with Government Relations to inform and support advocacy on policies impacting low carbon fuel pathways.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for external audit and verification firms, ensuring all CI scoring, Pathway Approval (PWA), and Qualified Sales documentation meets regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain resource plans for the maintenance, enhancement, and continuous improvement of low carbon fuel programs.
- Provide regular updates and technical insights to regional and local leadership on program performance, CI trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Monitor emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices in low carbon fuel production to inform strategic planning.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in biofuels, renewable energy, or related process industries, with direct experience in low carbon fuel programs preferred.
- Strong understanding of life-cycle assessment (LCA), carbon intensity modeling, and regulatory frameworks such as LCFS, 45Z, and Clean Fuel Regulations.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects and drive measurable CI improvements.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
