Under the supervision of the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Affairs, the Director of Residential Life will provide oversight of Residential Life, which includes all campus residential facilities, campus-owned fraternities, and move-in/out procedures. The Director will create an efficient, safe, comfortable, and developmental living experience for Westminster’s students in campus housing. The Director will serve as direct supervisor for Resident Advisor staff and co-advisor for the Student Life fellow. The Director will also work in conjunction with other Student Life staff to create a positive and healthy living experience for student organizations and Greeks in their respective living communities. Collaboration with faculty, other departments (ex: Business Office and Admissions), and outside groups (alumni, national fraternities, etc.) will be key to the success of the Director.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
- Directs college’s Residential Life by creating policies and procedures, supervising staff, and developing and administering budgets.
- Responsible for all Residential Life operations including housing assignments, move-in/move-out, key management, communication with plant operations/cleaning, check-out procedures, etc.
- Complete necessary administrative processes such as move-in/out, housing assignments, meal plan entry, damage billing, etc. into Jenzabar and Teams in a timely manner as this is essential for billing and financial aid.
- Serve as the chair for the Student Conduct team. In collaboration with other College staff, handle disciplinary matters involving individual students and student organizations. This includes scheduling conduct hearings, assigning appropriate sanctions, following up with completion, and documenting conduct process for students who violate the Student Handbook policies.
- Hires, trains, and supervises of all housing staff, including Resident Advisor student staff, and Resident Life student workers with a focus on creating a developmental employment experience.
- Prepare and provide comprehensive RA training at the beginning of each semester; schedule individual meetings with Resident Advisors; and prepare and teach a yearlong Leadership Course for Residential Advisors.
- Implement and maintain a programmatic and activities model that will keep residential students engaged, socializing, and learning with an emphasis on retention, risk management, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Keeps student Life leadership informed by preparing reports as required by the college and by communicating formally and informally regarding residential life issues and trends.
- Develop and review residential life policies and procedures, prepare regular reports for Student Life Directors meetings, Student Life Board of Trustee committee reports, annual assessment reporting, and regular Occupancy reports.
- Chairs the Housing and Meal Plan Exemption committee, which includes regular review of students seeking exemption from the housing and/or meal plan requirements. Communicates effectively with business office, financial aid, academics, and student life staff regarding these exemptions.
- Represent the Office of Residential Life at Welcome to Westminster events, SOAR, and other orientation sessions, meetings, or community events as designated by VP/Dean of Student Life.
- Serve in on-call staff rotation for emergency response/crisis management for on-campus issues after hours and on weekends.
- Collaborate with Plant Operations and custodial services staff to resolve maintenance, cleaning, and safety issues in residential facilities.
- Work with Campus Security to implement emergency preparedness drills in residential facilities in order to ensure that all residents know how to respond in emergencies.
- Serve on the College’s Student Persistence Team, Admissions Committee, Housing Review Board (Chair), Security/Conduct Meeting, Partners and Prevention team, Student Life Board of Trustee Committee and participates in broad college planning and committees as designated. <
