Primary Purpose
- Manages a team of employees to ensure best-in-class customer service
- Provides critical input in developing and implementing long-term strategic goals that align with Norfolk Southern’s corporate objectives
- Collaborates with Commercial Marketing, Field Sales, NPO, NOC, and Operations to meet our customers’ needs and ensure optimization of Norfolk Southern’s assets within the grain industry
Principal Duties
-Manage a team’s resources and hold them accountable while working toward corporate and departmental service and efficiency goals
- Provides insight and explanation into data driven results, typically in written reports or presentations provided to department leadership or external stakeholders
- Collaborates with other leaders within Customer Operations to successfully standardize business practices
- Consults with Marketing to accommodate the needs of the customers, improve equipment utilization, and maximize profitability
- Serves as a subject matter expert in specific customer volumes, revenue and contribution
- Ensure the compliance and effective use of the channel strategy (ConnectNS)
- Proactively identifies and coordinates corrective procedures and appropriate plans that will prevent repetitive errors and customer dissatisfaction
- Develops and enforces process best-practices in order to shape customer behavior
- Manages a team of individuals and is responsible for their development, productivity and performance.
Job Related Experience:
Minimum Level: 3-6 years
Preferred Level: 6-10 years
Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor’s Degree (BS, MBA)
Knowledge:
- Understanding of unique processes and economic factors associated with the commodity market
- Expert knowledge of customer businesses including but not limited to customer facility operations, volume and customer needs
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial and operational network knowledge (trains, lanes, and terminals)
