Disability Service Navigator - Advice and Referral Line - Multiple Positions
Tasmanian GovernmentAbout the role
The Team
The Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line was recently redesigned, and the new service went live on 1 July 2026. It is supported by the newly established Family Referral Hub and Service Navigators. The changes strengthen our ability to act quickly where there are concerns about child abuse, neglect or harm from family violence.
The Advice and Referral Line is frequently contacted by individuals seeking assistance with children with disability, who are experiencing high levels of risk and need, often involving complex and chronic circumstances where existing service systems struggle to respond effectively. Without specialist navigation, families can become trapped in repeated interactions with child safety and health systems, using significant resources without achieving meaningful reductions in risk.
About the Role
The role of the Disability Service Navigator is to provide specialist coordination and advocacy for children, young people, and families whose needs cannot be effectively met through routine triage and referral, due to service or system factors and constraints.
Service navigation requires deep service knowledge, active case facilitation, and authority to escalate across agencies when services are unavailable, inaccessible or fragmented. The Disability Service Navigator will work with children and families to ensure they do not remain ‘stuck’ in the system, falling between eligibility criteria or waiting lists, by actively coordinating pathways and addressing barriers.
