Responsibilities

The Environmental Control and Life Support Systems Engineer - Modeling & Simulation will:

  • Support the advanced environmental control and life support systems analysis group
  • Simulate and evaluate performance of life support systems for future NASA vehicles and habitats including the Orion spacecraft and vehicles capable of lunar or Mars missions
  • Correlate fluid test results to corresponding model
  • Model chemical processes, fluid flows, space environments, and size equipment performing life support functions space flights
  • Evaluate and refine requirements for life support equipment that will support future missions
  • Perform other tasks assigned

 

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering in the field or in a related area
  • Capable of developing simulation models of chemical and fluid processes at varying levels of fidelity ranging from detailed, first-principle models to more descriptive lumped-parameter models
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to use data to draw conclusions and support the conclusions when challenged
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills in a team environment

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Aspen software experience
  • Computational human modeling experience
  • Experience with dynamic chemical or fluid process simulation
  • Programming knowledge in one or more of the following: MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Star CCM, COMSOL
  • Experience with chemical processes associated with NASA life support systems
  • Experience with microgravity fluidics
  • Experience with modeling or system design for two phase flow
  • Understanding of the NASA processes for analysis, design, and system requirements
