St. Louis County's Department of Revenue seeks an Accounting Services Specialist to join their Accounting team. This position will perform a variety of complex accounting support functions including analysis of data, maintenance of accounting tickets and emails, and preparation of summary reports within general accounting. The well-qualified candidate will be able to make decisions without close review by a supervisor.

Examples of duties

Essential Function Examples 

  • Interpret, verify and record information, and process documents based on technical and accounting knowledge of relevant policies, statutes, ordinances and codes.

  • Monitor customer service portal and inbox to ensure Accounting tickets and emails are properly routed for prompt resolution.

  • Support Accounting staff as applicable.
  • Maintain ledgers and records of funds received from sources to ensure the maintenance of proper records and reimbursement.

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.


Qualifications

  • Equivalent to three years of experience in an accounting related environment
  • The work rules for the Department of Revenue require all employees, whether they reside in St. Louis County or elsewhere, to remain current in the payment of their personal and real property taxes

Preference may be given to applications as follows: 

  • Work experience in the public sector or government 

Supplemental information

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENTA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.  

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.  

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
