What will you do?

A day in the life of a District Manager at Vans looks a little like this.

As one of our talented and motivated District Managers, you will exercise independent judgment as well as develop strategies to drive your business. You have the ability and desire to motivate and inspire your store leadership teams to provide excellence in merchandising presentation, customer experience, and operational execution. You provide leadership and direction to each Store Manager and team to create an environment that ensures customer satisfaction, maximum productivity, and profitability by translating and implementing company and brand developed business plans and strategies.

Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.

  • Strategically partner with different areas across the business to support company objectives and support brand programs.
  • Hire, develop, and train a strong store leadership team from a diverse applicant pool, and support hiring plans so that all stores are at optimal staffing levels, while ensuring a quality on-boarding experience.
  • Responsible for directly managing team in the district with a people-first focus by building trust, actively listening, and dedicating time to teammates. Drives the vision, sets direction, and ensures transparent/regular communication with teammates at all levels across the district.
  •  Identify opportunities to leverage and maximize sales and monitor KPIs to creating accountability in achieving district and company goals.
  • Strategically analyze business opportunities within your district, your teams achieve business goals.
  • Ensure the teams comply and adhere to policies and procedures and align to the overall region strategy.
  • Address challenges such as sales, leadership issues, profitability, and staff management, while leading and inspiring a consumer centric culture by recognizing and rewarding teams.
  • Continually coach and develop a team, foster an inclusive environment for the stores and consumer, while leading by example and creating accountability.

What do you need to succeed?

We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 10+ years of experience and professional achievements.

The foundation skills you will need in this position are:

  • 10+ years in retail management
  • Experience in a multi-unit environment, knowledge of retail industry highly preferred.
  • Experience building, leading and training a successful team in a highly complex, multi-unit retail business environment.
  • Strong business acumen and proven track record of leading, adjusting and developing business strategy to achieve profit & loss results.
  • Ability to meet and exceed sales and profit results.
  • Ability to embrace challenges, take risks, learn fast and influence change to lead execution of strategic initiatives through others while managing competing priorities.
  • Keen awareness of the marketplace and overall retail trends.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
