Building: Junior High School


Position and Description: Academic Support Teacher, Grades 6-8


Newark Charter School is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as an Academic Support Special Education Teacher at the middle school level. The successful candidate will provide specialized academic
support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through instruction in executive functioning, study skills, literacy, and transition planning. The candidate will be responsible for developing
instructional goals aligned with Delaware State Standards, individual student needs, and the mission of Newark Charter School of Excellence in Academics and Decorum.  The successful candidate will create and utilize assessments and progress-monitoring tools that demonstrate student growth toward instructional goals and IEP objectives. Candidates will manage a caseload of special education students, provide adaptations, accommodations, and instructional support
that align with their core content areas, utilizing a collaborative approach to promote academic success and independence. Candidate must be committed to building strong relationships with students and
families and demonstrate expertise in working with students with disabilities.


Reports to: Building Principal 

Terms of Employment: 10-month Position

Salary: Commensurate with degree level and experience


Minimum Qualifications: 

Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware for Middle-Level English/ELA or Secondary English Special Education Certification.

    achievement.
  • Engage in professional learning and commit to continual growth and improvement as an
    educator.
  • Prioritize parental engagement in the instructional program and as partners to ensure the
    academic success of all students.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and
    administrative regulation.
  • Promote high expectations for behavior standards and enforce the Code of Conduct.
  • Contribute to the school community outside of the instructional program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
