About the role

Role Overview

The Senior Director, Transformation Engineering is a senior technical leader responsible for rethinking how the enterprise operates in an AI-native world. This role goes beyond delivering technology — it reimagines workflows, organizational design, and the operating model itself, with a focus on identifying the most AI-native ways to enable change at scale.

This leader will drive strategic technology approaches that anticipate how applied engineers, business teams, and AI agents will work together differently in the future. They will partner across Digital and US Commercial functions to challenge legacy assumptions, design new ways of working, and translate AI capability into measurable operational impact.

Key Responsibilities

Reimagine Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end rethinking of delivery and workflows, identifying where AI-native approaches can replace, augment, or eliminate existing processes.
  • Partner with senior leaders to surface high-impact transformation opportunities and translate them into actionable engineering roadmaps.
  • Challenge legacy assumptions about how work gets done, and develop a clear point of view on what an AI-native operating model looks like.

Drive AI-Native Strategy and Architecture

  • Define and execute the strategic technology approach for embedding AI agents, automation, and intelligent workflows into core operations.
  • Set architectural direction for how applied engineering teams build, deploy, and scale AI-native products and tooling.
  • Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and translate them into pragmatic, enterprise-grade solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.

Build and Lead the Future of Applied Engineering

  • Shape how future applied engineers work — including team design, tooling, ways of working, and the human-agent collaboration model.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of engineers and technical leaders focused on transformation initiatives.
  • Establish standards, frameworks, and best practices that scale AI-native engineering across the organization.

Deliver Strategic Impact

  • Own outcomes for a portfolio of high-priority transformation initiatives, with clear KPIs tied to efficiency, quality, revenue, and experience.
  • Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and recommendations to executive leadership and the board where appropriate.
  • Build durable cross-functional partnerships with Product, Data, Commercial, and Operations leaders.

Qualifications

Required

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in engineering, technology, or transformation leadership roles, including significant time leading senior technical teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Demonstrated track record of leading large-scale transformation programs that delivered measurable business impact.
  • Deep, current expertise in AI/ML, including hands-on understanding of agentic systems, LLM-based workflows, and AI-native product development.
  • Strong systems thinking — able to move fluidly between operating model design, architecture, and execution.
  • Executive-level communication skills, including the ability to influence senior business leaders and translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams in a matrixed environment.

Preferred

  • Prior experience as a senior engineering or transformation leader at a top technology company, consultancy, or large enterprise.
  • Background that combines strategy, product, and engineering — with credibility across all three.
  • Experience deploying AI agents or AI-native workflows in regulated or enterprise environments.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
