Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Optician is responsible for meeting our patients’ needs and duties included in dispensing eyeglasses/ accessories. This individual requires the ability to recognize and interpret ophthalmic disorders, analyze and interpret prescriptions, provide education of the products and uses, as well as clerical, cashier and insurance duties. The Optician provides exceptional customer service and attentiveness to the customers’ individual needs is a key component of this position.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Additional coursework.

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Two years’ optical shop experience as optician.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position.  Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: BLS certification through the AHA within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Certification as Optician through the American Board of Opticianry. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
