General Statement of Job
The Child Care Development Mentoring provides guidance, support, and professional development to early childhood educators pursuing their Child Care Development Association credential. This role focuses on fostering best practices in child development, classroom management, and curriculum implementation, while ensuring alignment with the Child Development Association competency standards. The mentor serves as a resource, role model, and coach—observing classroom practices, offering constructive feedback, and helping candidates reflect on and improve their teaching strategies.
Through regular communication, observation, and documentation review, the Child Care Development Mentor empowers candidates to build confidence, demonstrate competency, and meet the requirements for successful Child Development Association credential completion. This position requires a commitment to nurturing both the professional growth of educators and the developmental needs of the children they serve.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- This role fosters professional growth, promotes best practices in child development, and ensures alignment with early learning standards.
- The mentor serves as a role model, resource, and advocates for quality care and education for young children.
- Provides individualized coaching to enhance teaching strategies, classroom management, and child engagement.
- Offer encouragement, constructive feedback, and professional guidance throughout the Child Development Association process.
- Conducts orientation sessions for new Child Development Association candidates.
- Assist candidates in compiling their Child Development Professional Portfolio and preparing for assessments.
- Observes candidates in classroom settings to assess teaching practices and child interactions.
- Documents observations and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Models effective teaching techniques and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Maintains accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress notes, and candidate milestones.
- Ensure candidates meet Child Development Association Council requirements and timelines.
- Supports adherence to licensing regulations, safety standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Works closely with program directors, trainers, and other mentors to ensure consistent support.
- Advocates for high-quality early childhood education and professional development opportunities.
- Stays informed on current research, trends, and best practices in early childhood education.
