About the Position of Interim Associate Dean of the Michael D. Eisner College of Education

The Interim Associate Dean supports the Dean in advancing the College’s mission and vision by collaborating with department chairs, administrators, and university leaders to promote academic excellence and effective operations. Under the Dean’s direction, the Interim Associate Dean assists departments and interdisciplinary programs in developing and shepherding curriculum proposals through University committees, coordinating program assessments, program reviews, accreditation reports, and CTC reviews. As a member of the Administrative Council and ex-officio participant on key College committees, the Interim Associate Dean contributes to faculty governance, student affairs, and curriculum development, while also managing student petitions and academic concerns. The role includes coordinating College advising, addressing student academic and disciplinary issues, and maintaining partnerships with local schools and community colleges to support PreK–16 activities and student teacher placements. Additionally, the Interim Associate Dean serves as Program Sponsor for CSUN’s Youth Protection Program, oversees the college scholarship program, represents the Dean when absent, and performs other duties essential to the effective administration of the College.

Qualifications

 Required qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution with eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor in an academic discipline appropriate to the College
  • Demonstrated experience in academic administration or faculty governance
  • Demonstrated ability to serve effectively and collegially as a member of the academic administrative team
  • Ability to apply management skills to a variety of administrative issues
  • Demonstrated experience in academic program and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing or externally funded projects.
  • Experience in state, regional and/or national accreditation
  • Experience with faculty governance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal discretely and effectively with sensitive student and faculty issues
  • Computer skills relevant to academic administration, including experience with systems such as PeopleSoft, OnBase, Interfolio, learning management systems, and standard office productivity software.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and to work with diverse groups

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with high-impact practices for recruitment, enrollment, retention, and student success
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with local schools, school districts, and/or community partners.
