Health and Safety Coordinator
Regular Full-Time

New York City, Metro Long Island , NY, US

Miller Environmental Group Inc. is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to be based from our Westbury, NY office. The HSC will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and requirements at the facility, or job site. The HSC will support the branch office locations within their assigned region as well as the operational management team. This position will require travel between locations within the territory to complete a variety of health and safety related assignments at project sites and branch office locations. We are looking for individuals with experience in the construction, environmental, remediation, or safety field and are familiar with heavy equipment operation, environmental emergency response, along with remedial and construction activity.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety oversight of field crews during the performance of environmental investigations, remediation, and construction activities in accordance with OSHA, client and MEG policies and procedures.
  • Routinely perform EH&S audits of job sites and branch offices for regulatory and company policy compliance.
  • Prepare audit findings and ensure closure and corrective actions.
  • Communicates with corporate safety manager to aid in development of environmental, health and safety strategies among the management team and across the business.
  • Participates in near hits and incident investigations to assess root cause and lessons learned.
  • Raise the general level of awareness of safety and environmental programs with field personnel ensuring consistency with regulations and company policy.
  • Ensure training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained.
  • Participate or conduct tailgate safety briefings when on site.
  • Perform worker and task observations to identify unsafe behaviors. Work with the team to develop appropriate solutions to mitigate site hazards.
  • Manage Client led health and safety programs.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge (for example, national regulations, regulatory guidance, national standards, codes of practice and MEG procedures) to ensure ongoing personal effectiveness.
  • Develop understanding of the services delivered by MEG, of the client’s business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to develop personal credibility in the industry.
  • Implement policies or programs to promote employee health and safety or environmental compliance.

Requirements

 

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or field and equivalent years of experience
  • 3 years of experience in the construction, environmental, remediation, or safety field
  • Have a relentless pursuit for safety, injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction.
  • Able to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instruction, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Workers’ Compensation, and other industry guidelines.
  • Assist in accident investigations, root cause analysis, and system data entry.
  • Performance of other duties and responsibilities as required by management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 hr. OSHA General Industry certification or 30 hr. OSHA General Industry certification
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER with current 8 hr. refresher.
  • Experience in Environmental Construction Health and Safety
  • Working toward or eligible for H&S certification including ASP, CHST, CHMM, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Health and Safety related field.
  • Health and Safety Trainer
